Here the workshops for this year:

1.

The FrankenPony Project

Presenter

Bill Davis

Abstract

Nortorious tightwad Bill Davis, who presented the popular "Stereo on a Shoestring Budget" do-it-yourself workshop in Richmond, is at it again. This time he's created "FrankenPony", a "poor man's RBT" by merging two Kodak Pony 135 Model C cameras. In this workshop, Bill will give a step-by-step guide to building your own high quality, full frame (8P) stereo camera. Familiarity with hand tools is the only requirement.

2.

Widescreen Workshop

Presenters

Bob Brackett and Paul Pasqurello

Abstract

Last year I (Bob) designed and constructed a small prototype of a wide screen consisting of two standard screens positioned side by side and invisibly joined in a unique way, to make a wide format projection screen.

Paul became enthused with the design and built a full size version . He and I will project various wide format slide samples.

3.

It's All Done with Mirrors: Review of Large Print stereo viewers which use mirrors

Presenter

Steve Berezin

Abstract

This will review current viewing methods for viewing stereo images of prints larger than Holmes format and viewing large images on a computer monitor. Most of these viewers use mirrors and tackle the problem in several clever ways. Some theory will be discussed along with a review of what is available and possibly tips on making your own.

David Lee (manufacturer of the Hyperview) and Monte Ramstad (manufacturer of the PokeScope) will be present.

4.

Stereo Slide Mounting

Presenters

George A. Themelis, Dave Kesner, and contributions from Jon Golden

Abstract

Explain the basic principles of stereo mounting. Demonstrate mounting with currently available 41x101mm mounts. Special emphasis will be given to the RBT to Spicer transfer method, demonstrated by DrDave. Show in projection examples of mounting errors, plus do a "live" demonstration of the stereo window (move the window while the slide is projected).
5.

Getting Started in Stereo Photography with a Manual Stereo Camera

Presenter

George A. Themelis

Abstract

Tips on how to select and use a stereo camera from the 1950s. Emphasis is on manual camera operation. The following concepts will be explained: exposure, shutter speed, aperture, focus, depth of field, hyperfocal distance. Recommendations for taking pictures with daylight, low light, flash, close-ups. A variety of stereo cameras will be available for demonstration and hands-on display.
6.

How to take stereo pictures with a Single (2D) Camera

Presenter

George A. Themelis

Abstract

This will cover a variety of techniques: Slide bar hypostereos, hand-held normal stereos, hand-held hyperstereos, stereos from a moving platform, etc. The workshop will give tips for getting good stereo pairs (i.e. how much to shift, how to align the camera between shots, how to shoot with drifting clouds, etc.) and show examples of single camera stereo pairs in projection.
7.

How to do Trick/Creative Stereo Photography: A guide to unconventional, yet appealing stereo photography

Presenter

George A. Themelis

Abstract

The workshop will focus on unusual stereo pictures via the use of unconventional composition, films, stereo base, multiple exposures, digital manipulation, etc. A variety of stereo slides will be shown in projection and the techniques used to create them will be discussed.
8.

Digitalia - Stereo Computer Illustration

Presenter

Boris Starosta

Abstract

Introduction to scene building for computer generated stereoscopic rendering. Discuss design philosophy, software limitations, special considerations for stereo variables + output options. Participants should have some working knowledge of computer "3d" modelling and rendering software. Mac/Win.
9.

Creative Stereo Photography

Presenter

Boris Starosta

Abstract

Will use several creative images from the past few years to illustrate my approach to the art, technical challenges, and ongoing development of philosophy
10.

Making stereo cards

Presenter

David Lee

Abstract

From elementary to advanced techniques, with handouts.
11.

Using the darkroom for stereo photography

Presenter

David Lee

Abstract

Using the darkroom for stereo photography.
12.

Improving your stereo photography

Presenter

David Lee

Abstract

I will answer questions and give suggestions on many topics.
13.

Anaglyphs - What & How

Presenter

Dan Shelley

Abstract

An overview of anaglyphs and their creation. Will explain how to eliminate most common problems associated with anaglyph images as well as demo several software applications that can be used to create anaglyphs.
14.

2D To 3D Conversions - What & How

Presenter

Dan Shelley

Abstract

A guide to converting "flat" 2D images into "stereo" 3D pairs. Conversion examples will be show, as well as a demonstration of a conversion technique.
15.

E3D "Embedded Anaglyph Techniques"

Presenter

ALLAN SILLIPHANT

Abstract

On screen demonstration of E3D "embedded anaglyphs". E3D images are closely overlaid to as to look quite normal without anaglyph glasses. Camera and processing technique discussed. Printed 11x17 color anaglyphs will be passed around. Up to 50 pair of the permanent glasses will be given (free) to the first 50 attendees, others receive paper/gel type.
16.

VRex 3D Theater

Presenter

Taren Tanner

Abstract

VRex will be hosting a show of 3D stereoscopic video content in digital format on a large screen.
